Summer Volleyball Week 5

The Wahoos won the first game running away (21-6 or something like that), then the rain and lightning came in. Long story short we lost the last two, but part of that was due to breakups in the middle for lightning, then a rain delay. We should have won the 3d game, but didn’t came back strong after the rain delay. Brian was especially adept with his serves last night, and placed his hits very well (definitely the star of the match). Julie’s friend Kristen filled in and did a fine job in the back row while Julie did well at the net, with a few nice blocks on their hitters. Though it wasn’t intentional (allegedly [ed. note]), Kevin likely appeared to be a saboteur as he hit quite a few into the net. A good all around showing by the Wahoos…something about Service with a Smile that they squeak out those tight wins against both our teams (that is the same team that the Cavs lost two games 21-20 a couple weeks back).

As for the night match, the Cavs took on Grumpy Lettuce. They are a great team…and even though they dominate, they are still very fun to play against. We lost all three, but had two game points in the last game and ended up losing 21-20. Nadine continued her stellar back row play (and did even better once Kevin got out of her way and let her receive most of the serves, since Kevin was passing them into the side netting for most of the first game and a half). I think her highlight was digging a killer spike by Sean (tall guy with dark hair) while she was yawning…perfect pass to Kelli, and we ended up winning the point. His team gave him quite a bit of grief since Nadine was able to get his ball up while yawning…good stuff. GJ continued to hustle and pick up balls that didn’t seem possible. KQ did very well at the net and intimidated their hitting more than we probably expected. On a very positive note, we were very well organized this week…best of the season…so looks like we’re getting our “sea legs” with our set group of 4. Had we done a little better on our serve receive and passing, we could have won a game (and almost did in that last one). Even though we lost all 3, it was still fun to play with such a good team, and they have a very positive attitude, which also makes it fun.

Season Records:
Wahoos 9-6
Cavs 7-8

Next match: The highly anticipated grudge match, Cavs vs. Wahoos, 7/15 at 7:20 pm
