Wahoos 15
UncleChucklesFunHouse 5
Offensive MVP: Skurky, for knocking in his first home run of the season, as well as a hit that could be generously scored as a triple. Additionally, the whole team had a great night at the plate, with nearly everyone getting at least one hit and RBI (though many of had multiples of both)
Defensive MVP: Rose, for several slick plays at 3rd base on both line drives and ground balls
Katie Schank(!) minor head injury streak watch: we're up to 2 games, with the leather-adverse pop fly that found Katie at 2nd base (she still turned the play into an out though, so yay!)
Gold Stars for Attendance - all 14 players who arrived and were ready to play at the almost unreasonably early start time of 5:30. All are greatly appreciated :)
Season Record: 5-2
Next game: Playoffs round 1, time TBD

Softball Week 6
One Mo Round 10
Wahoos 6
Big hits of the night: Mitch and Sizemore with solo home runs to the right and left field corners respectively
Honorable mention: Bliven and Levy, each with another multihit game
Defensive highlights: Mitch doing a masterful job out in left, cutting off several balls that would have been sure triples to limit the One Mo Rounders to singles, a quick relay from Connor to Levy to Sizemore to tag out an overrunning tripler
Season Record: 4-2
Next game: 8/14 vs. UncleChucklesFunHouse, 5:30

Kickball Week 5
Virginia Orange 7
Boston College 2
Orange played another solid defensive game with enough offense in the first inning to get us by. Some big blows were provided by Smitty (two doubles driving in at least 3 runs). Defensively, they tried their luck with Cary time and again, only to be denied each time. Also, Lee decided every time the ball came near him, he must end up on the ground in some fashion. Sometimes not the most elegant – but always effective. A very well played game at 1B!
Season record: 4-1
Next game: 8/9 vs. Michigan/Purdue, 2 pm
Florida Blue 8
Virginia Blue 3
Repeat of last week. Orange is the best….sucks to be Blue. yea yea yea.
Even though we lost, we had some great plays including a 2-run comeback in the bottom of the 7th (…before giving up a few runs in extra innings…maybe we shoulda accepted the tie!). Game MVP to Danielson for several sharp plays at 2nd base and a hit or two on offense. GJ, Laurie and Patrick also did a great job of getting on base and advancing runners at the end of the game. Substitute John had some amazing catches in the outfield. And thanks to Smitty for kicking, Thirza for providing the musical entertainment and a large majority of Orange for sticking around and supporting us (matt b – a little more heckling next time though please). Patrick will be hosting a mandatory Blue team kicking practice at 1130am this Saturday.
Blue season record: 2-3
Next game: 8/9 vs. USC Gamecocks, noon

Softball Week 5
Wahoos 12
Brookhaven Ballers 1 (who apparently were had been the only undefeated team left in the league - we sure took care of that!)
Offensive highlights - both Scott and Hans were just a home run away from hitting for the cycle (though an objective observer noted than the wind was blowing in for Hans' triple, preventing a potential home run); pretty much everyone getting base hits to produce high- scoring first and second innings to give us an early insurmountable lead
Defensive highlights - solid defense by Levy and Hans on the left side despite the slow, muddy infield (and lack of cleats for Levy) and Sizemore holding things down at first; Scott grabbing a neat fly ball to right center to open the game; Erin corralling a high foul pop behind the plate
Injury of the game, semi-self-inflicted version - on a relay throw from Sizemore to tag a greedy runner coming into second base, Katie made the tag and was promptly rewarded by having her glove propelled back into her face. Luckily, there was no bruising so we were able to keep our shiner-free games streak alive (I believe we're up to 9 - woohoo!)
Scott's parenting lesson of the week - never ever take away the baseball cap of a true Yankee fan, even if she is only three and you're a Red Sox fan. The tears are just not worth it.
Season record: 4-1
Next game: 8/7 vs. One Mo Round, 9:45

Kickball Week 4
Virginia Orange 5
Vandy/Duke 2
Yes, Orange pulled out another solid win. It was a solid, well-played game all around by pretty much everyone. Great defense around the diamond except for a couple of scattered hiccups (remember Brenda, it’s like holding a baby!!). There was more fantastic OF defense by Thirza and Elizabeth.
On offense, we featured a lot of small ball, manufacturing enough runs to give us a reasonably comfortable margin of victory (5-2).
Season Record: 3-1
